A bill with zero charges issued to a beneficiary of Telangana Gruha Jyothi scheme. | Photo Credit: MOHD ARIF Telangana Deputy Chief Minister and Power Minister, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, said that eligible people who wish to apply for the Gruha Jyothi scheme, as well as those who want to make changes or additions, can approach the Praja Palana officials at their respective MPDO offices. “Overall, 52,82,498 families are receiving free electricity up to 200 units under the Gruha Jyothi scheme,” he explained while responding to questions raised by several members during the Question Hour in the Winter Session of the Assembly on Saturday (January 3, 2026). The Deputy Chief Minister clarified that the scheme applies to all eligible beneficiaries across the State, irrespective of parties and communities. “The government is committed to supplying free electricity up to 200 units under the Gruha Jyothi scheme, and this scheme will continue in the future. Under this scheme, there are 25,35,560 beneficiaries in the Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (TGSPDCL) jurisdiction and 27,46,938 beneficiaries in the Northern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (TGNPDCL) jurisdiction. Overall, there are 1.15 crore households across the State, of which 52,82,498 families are receiving free electricity up to 200 units under the scheme,” he added. He further stated that the State government, led by Congress, has paid ₹3,593 crore on behalf of Gruha Jyothi beneficiaries. He mentioned that 45,995 families in Asifabad constituency, 40,555 families in Achampet constituency, 65,862 families in Gajwel constituency (represented by former Chief Minister K. Chandrshekar Rao), and 50,398 families in Siddipet constituency are benefiting under the Gruha Jyothi scheme.
