Minister for Finance Thangam Thennarasu said on Friday that the Chief Minister M.K. Stalin-led DMK government had fulfilled or had been implementing close to 75% of the election promises made by the party in the run-up to the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly election.

Speaking at an event titled ‘Tamil Nadu 2030-Kanavugal Meipadum’ (Dreams will come true) in Chennai, Mr. Thennarasu said of the 505 poll promises, 206 promises had already been fulfilled, while 170 were being implemented.

Mr. Thennarasu also said 32 of the promises were under the consideration of the State government, while 33 were pending with the Union government. Further, he said 44 promises had not been taken up so far by the State government, while 20 promises had been dropped “as not feasible.”

The statement by the Finance Minister comes at a time when some DMK leaders were claiming that the party had fulfilled more than 90% of the poll promises, while the Opposition had been claiming that only close to 30% of promises were kept.
