As part of its community awareness programme, National Disaster Response Force personnel carried out familiarisation and mock exercise at Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College on Thursday. A team from the 4th Battalion of NDRF, Arakkonam, explained to the students about various types of disasters, their adverse impacts and the role of NDRF in rescue opreation to the students. The team demonstrated first-aid training, different methods of carrying the injured, techniques of controlling bleeding, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and clearing of foreign body airway obstruction. They also demonstrated splinting and triage, making of temporary stretchers, and using household goods as life buoys. The NDRF personnel also explained search techniques after earthquakes, fire safety rescue during flood and safety measures to be followed during chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear emergency situations.
