Condemning the DMK Government for allegedly diverting funds meant for the welfare of the people belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes to some other schemes, National Democratic Alliance (NDA) organised a massive demonstration in Palayamkottai on Wednesday.

AIADMK’s Tirunelveli district secretary Thatchai N. Ganesaraja said the Tamil Nadu Government had diverted over ₹25,000 crore meant for SC/ST welfare to other general schemes, and hence National SC/ST Commission had sought a detailed report from State Government on this mismanagement of funds.

Rampant corruption and lack of financial prudence had ultimately drowned the entire State in a debt of over 9 lakh crore. The State Government had tried to show that this government was performing well and registered unprecedented growth rate.

“If this situation is allowed to continue, the Tamil Nadu Government will become bankrupt in near future. Hence, the people of Tamil Nadu, realising the threat they are now facing, should vote wisely in the upcoming Assembly polls,” Mr. Ganesaraja appealed.

The BJP functionaries charged that the DMK government in Tamil Nadu was “misusing the Central funds” by diverting the funds for some other work instead of using it for the intended purpose.

“More than ₹5,000 crore has been released by the Centre to Tamil Nadu for specifically implementing welfare schemes for the uplift of poor SC and ST people. However, it has been diverted for other populist schemes for the sake of fetching votes,” the speakers alleged.

Office-bearers of Pattali Makkal Katchi and Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam also participated in the demonstration.
