Commuters using the Namma Metro faced inconvenience on Tuesday after UPI-based payments at ticket counters and through online applications recorded a sharp dip in success rates due to a nationwide technical outage.

According to the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL), UPI transactions made via QR code scanning at station counters and through mobile apps were affected between 6.40 p.m. and 9.00 p.m. on Tuesday. The disruption, BMRCL said in a release, was not due to any fault in its systems but stemmed from a technical issue at the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which manages the UPI network across the country.

“BMRCL facilitates UPI payments through multiple banking handles. However, all were impacted during the above-mentioned period due to a nationwide issue. Our internal systems were functioning normally, and our role in the outage was nil,” the BMRCL said.

Services were fully restored after 9.00 p.m., allowing passengers to resume digital payments without difficulty.
