A national symposium on ‘Innovations in Biomedical Sciences and the Role of TOCIC in Promoting Global Health’ was organised by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) – Technopreneur Promotion Programme (TePP) at Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV) in Tirupati on Monday.

The TePP Outreach cum Cluster Innovation Centre (TOCIC) under the PRISM (Promoting Innovations in Individuals, Startups and MSMEs) scheme of the Government of India serves as a dynamic platform for bringing together medical students, research scholars, academicians and healthcare startups to exchange ideas and promote innovation-driven solutions in the biomedical field.

Co-founder and CEO of Impact Hub and Senior Scientist at Fraunhofer Gesellschaft, Germany, Dr. Rer. Nat. Nagaraju Sallagundala, highlighted the importance of global innovation ecosystems and emphasised the need for collaborative efforts between academia, industry, and startups to develop scalable healthcare solutions.

SPMVV Vice-Chancellor V. Uma spoke on the pivotal role of educational institutions in fostering innovation for societal benefit. She emphasised strengthening research culture, encouraging interdisciplinary approaches, and supporting young innovators to address pressing global health challenges.

The keynote address was delivered by Founder of Global HealthX, Dr. K. Ravindranath, who presented an insightful talk on innovations in biomedical sciences. He elaborated on the importance of translational research, affordable healthcare technologies, and the integration of modern innovations to improve healthcare accessibility and outcomes in India.
