The National Commission for Scheduled Castes has responded to the allegation by an aggrieved applicant to the post of Registrar of Bharathiar University that the (Appointment) Committee did not have proper SC (Scheduled Caste member) representation, by requesting the Higher Education Department, Government of Tamil Nadu, to submit the facts.

Citing the complaint lodged by M. Ilanchelian, Professor and Head, Department of Chemistry, Bharathiar University, Mr. Ravivarman, Director, National Commission for Scheduled Castes, said in a letter to the Additional Chief secretary, Higher Education Department, Government of Tamil Nadu, with a copy marked to Bharathiar University, that “The Commission has decided to investigate/inquire into the matter in pursuance of the powers conferred upon it under Article 338 of the Constitution of India” (to safeguard rights, welfare, and socio-economic development of Scheduled Castes in India).

The Interview Panel consisting of P. Shankar (Convenor, VC Committee), E. Sundaravalli (Syndicate Member), M. Dharanidharan (Syndicate Member), R. Durgashankar (Syndicate Member), and M.V. Ramana Moorthy (Nominee of the Chancellor) had appointed R. Rajavel, who was then the Professor of Chemistry, Periyar University, Salem, as the Registrar, on August 8, 2025.
