Andhra Pradesh Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development P. Narayana, Member of Parliament (Nellore) Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy, and State Waqf Board Chairman Abdul Azeez formally laid the foundation stone for the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam International School coming up in Nellore on Sunday.

The school, coming up at Parameswar Nagar on the land belonging to the Waqf Board, is said to be the first to be established in the State by the Waqf Board to meet the educational needs of the marginalised sections of society.

Mr. Narayana, himself an educationalist, underscored the importance of education in scaling new heights in life and called upon the public to ensure cent percent literary rate for the State.

He thanked Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and HRD Minister N. Lokesh for introducing reforms in the field of education and bringing several underprivileged children into the ambit of education.

Mr. Azeez criticised the erstwhile governments for treating Muslims as a vote bank, while hailing the NDA regime for extending tangible benefits to the community.

Mr. Prabhakar Reddy offered to provide funds of ₹20 crore towards improving infrastructure in the school.

Nellore Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy, Nellore Urban Development Authority (NUDA) Chairman K. Srinivasulu Reddy, and in-charge Mayor Roopkumar Yadav were present.
