Andhra Pradesh Minister for Tourism, Culture and Cinematography Kandula Durgesh has directed officials to organise the prestigious Nandi Awards and Nandi Natakotsavams in a manner that reflects the cultural identity and artistic richness of the State.

Chairing a review meeting with officials of the Andhra Pradesh Film Development Corporation (APFDC) on Friday, Mr. Durgesh emphasised that the State must align its creative and cultural initiatives with the government’s vision to strengthen the creative economy and drive economic growth.

“Make necessary arrangements to conduct the Nandi Awards, Nandi Natakotsavams, TV and Theatre Awards, and the Kandukuri Awards at the earliest. A jury will be constituted soon,” the Minister said.

Highlighting the government’s intent to promote Andhra Pradesh as a prime filming destination, he said a new film policy would be introduced to encourage movie shootings in the State. Films shoots in Andhra Pradesh should prominently display the names of tourist destinations on screen to enhance promotion. The government would extend full support to those willing to establish film studios, dubbing theatres and re-recording facilities, he said.

To generate employment for local artistes and technicians, Mr. Durgesh directed officials to create a data bank of talent across the State.

The Minister also revealed that discussions had been held with Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat regarding the establishment of a branch of the National School of Drama in Rajamahendravaram, and that the response from the Centre was positive.

Calling for the integration of advanced technologies such as animation, digital media, OTT platforms, Artificial Intelligence and virtual reality, the Minister said these sectors could open new avenues for economic development. He proposed organising a State-level workshop soon to explore opportunities in these emerging areas.

Mr. Durgesh also directed the APFDC to produce films that provide wider publicity to the State’s tourism sector, thereby strengthening Andhra Pradesh’s cultural and economic footprint.

Among others, the meeting was attended by APFDC Managing Director Viswanathan, general manager Srinivas Naik, and manager Challa Srinivas.
