Nainar Nagenthran. After a prolonged wait, finally BJP State president, Nainar Nagenthran, was on Friday announced as the party candidate for Sattur Assembly constituency. Similarly, the other national party, Congress too on Friday announced retaining sitting MLA, G. Ashokan, as its candidate for Sivakasi Assembly seat. Mr. Nagenthran, who is a three-time MLA from Tirunelveli Assembly constituency has now shifted to Sattur. He had won on AIADMK ticket twice in 2001 and 2011 and on BJP ticket in 2021. Mr. Nagenthran would face a local strong man, A. Kadarkarairaj of DMK, who is making his second attempt to become an MLA from the same constituency. He had earlier lost the Assembly election in 2011 against AIADMK candidate R.B. Udhayakumar. Mr. Ashokan said that he would seek votes on the good works he had carried out for the infrastructure development of Sivakasi city. “The resolutions of Sivakasi municipality that was passed in 2008 had listed two road over bridges and a Ring Road, when I was vice-chairman of the local body,” he said. All the three works have been taken up and the ROB at Satchiyapuram has been completed. Besides, the demand for four-laning the road between Sivakasi and Virudhunagar has been taken up, he said. Meanwhile, DMDK candidate for Virudhunagar Assembly constituency, V. Vijayaprabhakaran, arrived here on Friday. He met the DMK leaders, K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, and Thangam Thennarasu before attending a meeting of all-party leaders in Virudhunagar.
