An acute shortage of LPG cylinders, linked by traders to disruptions in supply amid the West Asian conflict, has begun to severely impact eateries across Nagapattinam, forcing several tea stalls and small hotels to suspend business, scale down operations and raising prices.

According to hotel owners, menu prices have increased by around 10% across establishments, with some items witnessing a jump of ₹10 or more. The crisis, they said, was no longer limited to cooking gas, with cascading effects seen in the prices of edible oil, packaging material, and poultry.
