Mysuru witnessed a unique event on January 1 evening as students of Purna Chetana School extended a distinctive and meaningful welcome to New Year through Nagara Sankeerthane.

On the first day of the New Year, nearly 380 students presented the art form at three prominent locations across the city for about an hour.

The highlight of the Nagara Sankeerthane was the fusion of classical Bharatanatyam and devotional singing. While two female students led the procession with graceful Bharatanatyam movements, the remaining students followed, singing devotional songs and moving rhythmically under the soft glow of torches. Fourteen verses were presented during the Bharatanatyam performance, creating a captivating ambience. Months of rigorous practice found meaningful expression through this performance, the school said in a release here.

Students from classes 3 to 9, divided into three groups, commenced the Nagara Sankeerthane simultaneously at 6.15 p.m. from Sri Vittala Dhama in J.P. Nagar, Sri Shiva Temple in Srirampura, and Sri Vinayaka Temple on Vinaya Marga, Siddhartha Layout. The programme concluded at 7.15 pm.

At all three locations, hundreds of people gathered to encourage the students. As the procession moved forward, onlookers applauded the young participants, who effectively brought the beauty of Nagara Sankeerthane.
