The revision, approved by the Directorate of Municipal Administration, introduces a slab-based pricing system for domestic consumers, with rates ranging from ₹6.50 to ₹25 per 1,000 litres depending on consumption levels. The tariff revision comes alongside an increase in property tax within MCC limits, adding to the financial burden on residents. As per the new structure, households consuming up to 25,000 litres of water will be charged ₹6.50 per 1,000 litres, while consumption exceeding one lakh litres will attract the highest rate of ₹25. The MCC has also mandated a minimum monthly charge of ₹163, even for households with minimal usage. In addition to the revised water tariff, sewerage charges (underground drainage) have been fixed at 40% of the total water bill. The MCC has also imposed fixed monthly sewerage fees for properties not connected to water supply but linked to underground drainage systems. These charges are ₹100 per unit for domestic users, ₹200 for non-domestic users, and ₹300 for commercial and industrial establishments. In a press release, the MCC urged citizens to use water judiciously and ensure timely payment of bills. It also directed consumers to install functional water meters and ensure that connections without meters or with faulty devices are rectified without delay.
