Murder suspect tracked down hours after woman was found dead

The Maradu police on Tuesday (February 24) arrested a man accused of murdering a woman whose body was found along a disused railway track at Vyttila in the early hours of Tuesday.

The accused was identified as Shaji K.V., 63, a retired High Court employee from Ponnurunni. The victim is Sudha Baby, 45, of Chingavanam, Kottayam.

The victim’s mobile phone was found near the body, enabling the police to quickly establish her identity and also to trace the suspect. CCTV footage proved crucial in the investigation. The visuals showed Shaji and Sudha walking together towards the spot, followed by footage of Shaji leaving alone with bloodstains on his body, said the police.
