Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, Mysuru MP, presiding over a meeting of street vendors at the MCC office on January 2. | Photo Credit: M.A. Sriram Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, Mysuru MP, directed officials of the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) to establish dedicated zones for street vendors as part of efforts to maintain the cleanliness of the city. Speaking at a progress review meeting held at the MCC office on January 2, the MP said proper measures are needed to support street vendors and instructed officials to prepare a comprehensive plan for the development of organised street vending zones. Emphasising the importance of safety, security and cleanliness, Mr. Wadiyar said adequate facilities must be provided to all vendors. He made it clear that no vendor should be inconvenienced during the process of creating vending zones and stressed the need to provide proper guidance to them. Noting that Mysuru is known for its cleanliness and rich cultural heritage, the MP said effective plans should be formulated and implemented to preserve the city’s identity. He also said he would personally visit a few proposed street vending zones along with officials to inspect the arrangements. Mr. Wadiyar said a decision had been taken to complete all related processes at the earliest. He further said that special hawking zones could be created during Dasara and other fairs, festivals and car festivals when there is a heavy influx of people, and directed officials to take necessary steps in this regard. Senior officials and office-bearers of various committees were present at the meeting.
