More than 85,000 cases disposed of in Chamarajanagar during this year’s Mega Lok Adalat

A total of 85,907 cases have been disposed of in Chamarajanagar district during this year’s first Mega Lok Adalat.

Principal District and Sessions Judge G. Prabhavati, who is also the chairperson of Chamarajanagar District Legal Services Authority, said the cases included 2,950 court and 82,957 pre-litigation cases.

Ms. Prabhavati shared the details of the Lok Adalat, organised by the District Legal Services Authority and Taluk Legal Services Committees, as per the directions of National and State Legal Services Authorities on March 14 at a press conference held in Chamarajanagar on Saturday (March 28).

The primary objective of a Lok Adalat is to resolve all types of civil cases and compoundable criminal and other disputes through mutually amicable settlements.

By resolving long-pending cases through mutual settlements at the Lok Adalat, valuable time and money were saved for the public, relationships between the parties were strengthened, and the burden on courts was significantly reduced through the disposal of a large number of pre-litigation cases.

Out of the 2,950 court cases which were disposed of during the Lok Adalat this time, 661 cases were filed before the court in Chamarajanagar, 327 in Yelandur, 1,270 in Kollegal, and 692 in Gundlupet.

Among 82,957 pre-litigation cases, 43,697 were from Chamarajanagar, 8,142 from Yelandur, 20,430 from Kollegal, and 10,688 from Gundlupet.

The district judge said ₹20.68 crore was recovered during the Lok Adalat, including ₹12.89 crore recovered from court cases and ₹7.79 crore from pre-litigation cases. 

This year’s Lok Adalat disposed of 300 more cases than the previous Lok Adalat, and the amount of money recovered was also about ₹6 crore more than the amount recovered by the previous Lok Adalat.

Judges, lawyers, and conciliators actively participated in the Adalat and guided both parties toward resolution, she said, while adding that the efforts to reunite families seeking divorce through counselling and conciliation at the Lok Adalat will improve family life and the future of children.

Ishwara, senior civil judge and member secretary of the Chamarajanagar District Legal Services Authority, and Ramasamudra Puttaswamy, president of the District Bar Association, were also present at the press conference.
