Women waiting for cancer screening at Vijaya Sree Uppalapati Memorial Hospital run by Sri Gurudeva Charitable Trust in Mangalampalem of Vizianagaram district. | Photo Credit: BY ARRANGEMENT Sri Gurudeva Charitable Trust, which runs Dr. Vijaya Sree Memorial Cancer Hospital in Mangalampalem of Kothavalasa mandal in the district proposes to conduct 50 medical camps in North Andhra districts, including Vizianagaram and Srikakulam, from January 5 to February 4. Speaking to the media here, trust founder Raparthi Jagadish Babu said that the hospital would hold pap-smear tests for women free of cost to identify symptoms of cervical cancer. “The hospital which was established a year ago has identified cancer symptoms in many women during its previous camps. The early identification of cancer will ensure quick relief for the patients. We are planning to hold more cervical cancer camps for the next four weeks. The medical teams also conduct tests to identify symptoms of breast cancer also during those camps,” said Mr. Jagadish Babu in a press release. According to Chief Medical Officer of the hospital Loknath Tripathi, the medical and surgical oncologists had been performing cancer surgeries at nominal charges as part of the trust’s service activity. He said that the hospital management planned to expand services in its palliative care center for patients, who were in advanced stages of cancer.
