A state-of-the-art core library will be established in Rajasthan for the minerals obtained during drilling in the mines and geology sector. The modern library equipped with advanced resources will ensure scientific preservation of the available core samples and help in the mineral exploration. Principal Secretary (Mines and Geology) T. Ravikanth said here on Saturday (January 3, 2026) that the core library would use the latest technology for analysis of cores obtained as intact sections of rock, soil and sediment extracted from the subsurface. The exercise will help in the assessment of composition, structure and potential economic viability of mineral deposits. Mr. Ravikanth said the Rajasthan State Mineral Exploration Trust (RSMET) would play a crucial role in the library’s establishment. “A team of three officers from the Mines and Geology Department will shortly visit the core repository of the Mineral Exploration Corporation in Nagpur to study its model of collection, analysis and digitalisation,” he said. An analysis of other techniques and systems for core preservation will also be carried out along with the preparation of a blueprint for scientific preservation in the library. Mr. Ravikanth said the creation of a well-catalogued core library would help preserve the material for the future operations. Mr. Ravikanth also gave instructions for speeding up the mineral exploration work in the State, while affirming that promoting legal mining was necessary to curb illegal mining activities.
