Autonomous colleges run by minority communities in Tiruchi have been hit by a funding crunch as grants and scholarships from University Grants Commission (UGC) have either been reduced or discontinued following the COVID-19 years. Academicians said the stoppage of UGC’s autonomy grant, meant for colleges that have been functional for over 10 years and a valid NAAC/NBA accreditation, has affected the infrastructure development of the institutions.
