To develop Nellore as ‘green city’, over 50,000 saplings would be planted in the city, Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Ponguru Narayana said on Friday (March 27). He also announced allocation of ₹850 crore to Nellore Municipal Corporation (NMC) to develop the city on the lines of Chandigarh and Singapore.

“Apart from this, a huge adventure park and water sports park will be set up in the city. Continuing the construction of parks, Balijapalem Park has been recently developed. Out of 47 parks proposed in the city, works have already been completed for 44 parks. The poor and middle class people can celebrate their auspicious events in the parks without spending anything.”

“Around 15 government schools are being upgraded to international standards. The underground drainage (UGD) works will be completed soon and the city will be made mosquito-free,” the Minister said, giving green signal for the construction of a community hall in Balijapalem at a cost of ₹50 lakh.

As part of the ongoing development of the parks in the city, Potti Sriramulu Park in the 8th division was renovated with ₹85 lakh. With an aim to conduct eye check-ups to 48,000 people during the next two years, ‘Narayana Netra Jyoti – Danta Suraksha’ free medical camp is being organised across the city, and spectacles were distributed to several people who underwent eye tests.
