Minister inspects medical camps under Nalam Kaakkum Stalin in Salem

Minister for Tourism R. Rajendran on Saturday (February 7, 2026) inspected the medical camp held under the Nalam Kaakkum Stalin scheme in the district. He also laid the foundation stone for scheme works worth ₹5.14 crore at Omalur panchayat union and Karuppur town panchayat.

The Minister inaugurated the road-laying works worth ₹54 lakh and inaugurated an overhead water tank that was constructed at ₹18.50 lakh in Karuppur town panchayat. On behalf of the District Rural Development Agency, he inaugurated the pipeline laying works worth ₹2.81 crore between the Thekkampatti Tanmag mines and the Sethakkalthittu barrage. The Minister also inaugurated road-laying works worth ₹69.35 lakh from the Mattukaranur panchayat office to Vellalapatti, ₹34.68 lakh worth of road works between Puliyampatti and Ayyankaradu, and a new anganwadi centre worth ₹16.60 lakh at Pottiyapuram. A noon meal kitchen worth ₹9.58 lakh was constructed at Muthunaickenpatti government higher secondary school.

Earlier, the Minister inspected medical camps held at Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Ammapet and Vellalapatti. In the camps, he distributed eyeglasses to seven persons, identity cards for 25 differently-abled persons, and nutrition kits to six pregnant women.

Addressing the media, the Minister said that in Salem district, till date, 52 medical camps have been conducted under the Nalam Kaakkum Stalin scheme and a total of 63,147 people, including 26,526 men and 36,142 women, have benefited. Blood tests were performed for 47,812 people, ECG for 43,474 people, ultrasound scan for 5,869 people, echo tests for 6,605 people and X-ray for 3,703 people, he added.

During the inspection, Salem Corporation Commissioner M. Elangovan, District Revenue Officer R. Ravikumar, and officials from departments concerned participated.
