School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi inaugurated the multi-sensory park for children with disabilities at the Poppiliraja Government Higher Secondary School, Puzhal, Chennai on Tuesday. The park aims to improve sensory, cognitive, and motor skills of children with disabilities through play.

The Minister had made the announcement of the park during the demand for grants for the School Education Department in the 2024-25 budget session. A total of 20 multi-sensory parks would be set up in 20 districts across the State at a cost of ₹ 2.6 crore with ₹ 5.13 lakh for each.

According to a press release, the park has been designed to stimulate the senses of children with disabilities. “This will benefit 410 students with disabilities studying in Puzhal from Classes 1-12,” the release said.

Among the equipment installed are slides, swings, seesaws, merry-go-round, ball pit, wind chimes among others. “These devices will provide a therapeutic play experience for children with disabilities such as autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and cerebral palsy,” the release added.

Samagra Shiksha State Project Director M. Aarthi, Madhavaram MLA Sudharsanam, Director of School Education S. Kannappan and others were present.
