Minister for Adi Dravidar Welfare M. Mathiventhan, on Saturday (January 31, 2026), inaugurated the the Chief Minister’s Youth Sports Festival – Ithu Namma Aattam at the sports ground in Namakkal Collectorate premises.

Speaking at the function, the Minister said that many schemes have been implemented in the Sports Department by Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin. To improve the skills, strength, social attachment and mental health, Ithu Namma Aattam is conductedat the district and State-levels. The union-level competitions were held at 15 panchayat unions in Namakkal and on Saturday, the district-level competitions were conducted. The winners of the first three places received ₹6,000, ₹4,000 and ₹2,000, respectively. The winners of the first three places at the State level will receive ₹75,000, ₹50,000 and ₹25,000, respectively, the Minister added.

Rajya Sabha member K.R.N. Rajeshkumar said that Tamil Nadu is a forerunner in the Sports Department in the country and a 3% reservation is provided to sportspersons, through which, more than 100 people have currently secured government jobs.

Later, the Minister distributed prizes for the winners of various competitions. District Collector Durgamoorthi, Namakkal Corporation Mayor D. Kalanithi and officials from departments concerned also participated.
