Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Minister P. Geetha Jeevan on Friday asserted that the “Dravidian Model 2.0” government would return to Tamil Nadu, with M.K. Stalin once again becoming the Chief Minister.

She made this statement while addressing the media, following the distribution of sweets, on celebrating the credit of ₹5,000 to beneficiaries under the “Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam.”

In Tamil Nadu 1.31 crore women are receiving ₹1,000 per month under the “Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam” scheme. Since Friday morning, the beneficiaries’ bank accounts were credited with ₹5,000, which includes ₹3,000 covering the months February, March and April along with special summer assistance of ₹2,000.

Welcoming the initiative, DMK cadres celebrated near Anna Bus Stand in Thoothukudi with bursting crackers and distributing sweets.

Ms. Jeevan said that the opposition parties had criticised the government, claiming that the scheme of financial assistance for women could not and would not be implemented. “However, chief minister has been successfully implementing the scheme since September 2023, ensuring that ₹1,000 is credited every month to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts,” she noted.

She described the move of crediting ₹5,000 to beneficiaries’ bank accounts as a happy development, stating that the amount was provided with the intention of continuing support for hardworking women who serve as the anchor of their families. The chief minister had thwarted the alleged conspiracy of BJP and AIADMK, she added.
