As part of the Tamil Nadu government’s ‘Ulagam Ungal Kaiyil,’ initiative, the free laptop distribution scheme was officially inaugurated in Sivaganga district on Monday. The programme is set to benefit a total of 6,107 final-year students from 19 Government and Government-aided colleges in Sivagangai district.

Minister for Cooperation K.R. Periyakaruppan in the district officially launched the free laptop distribution scheme for 6,107 Students in Sivaganga worth ₹13.22 crore.

Mr. Periyakaruppan highlighted that the Chief Minister has been fulfilling electoral promises and introducing innovative schemes for public welfare over the last 4.5 years.

The Tamil Nadu government has prioritised education by allocating ₹49,000 crore for School Education and ₹9,000 crore for Higher Education, totalling ₹58,000 crore.

He added that the scheme aimed to benefit 20 lakh students across Tamil Nadu, covering medical, agriculture, law, engineering, arts and science, polytechnic, nursing, and ITIs.

As 10 lakh students are being covered in the first phase, Mr Periyakaruppan stated that the scheme would extend to pre-final year students in government colleges and eligible students in private colleges under the 7.5% reservation and welfare schemes.

Sivaganga District Collector K. Porkodi was also present during the event.

Similarly, in Ramanathapuram district too, under the scheme, laptops were distributed to college students.
