The Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin), also known as VB-G RAM G Act provides a clear roadmap aligned with India’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, said G. Narendra Kumar, Director General of the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR), while speaking at a workshop organised in Hyderabad on Tuesday (January 6).

Dismissing concerns regarding a reduction in minimum wages, he clarified that minimum wages will be fully safeguarded under the new Act.

“The proposed legislation seeks to align Gram Panchayats with national development priorities and would play a key role in generating employment while promoting sustainable and inclusive rural development. The Act focuses on strengthening rural infrastructure and ensuring basic amenities at the village level, which would significantly improve the quality of life in rural areas,” he added.

On institutional reforms, he said the framework strengthens decentralised planning and monitoring by formally involving all three tiers of Panchayati Raj Institutions, with enhanced district-level oversight to ensure convergence, quality and accountability.
