The Mysuru Grahakara Parishat (MGP) has planned an innovative awareness initiative to mark World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) 2026, observed annually on March 15. As a curtain-raiser to the main event, MGP will launch a series of consumer-centric activities, starting with a monthly meeting at 6/1, Vivekananda Road, Yadavagiri, Mysuru, on February 8 at 4 p.m.

As part of the initiative, students will administer a questionnaire to the general public to assess awareness of consumer rights and responsibilities. The exercise is also intended to indirectly educate students about the consumer movement and instil a sense of civic responsibility among them, consumer activist and MGP member Bhamy V. Shenoy said in a press release.

The programme will culminate in a seminar focusing on the need for reforms in the consumer grievance redressal framework, along with measures to protect and strengthen consumer rights.

According to the release, A.K. Navin Kumari, president of the Mysuru District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, will be the invited speaker. Consumers in Mysuru will have the opportunity to learn about the commission’s performance under her leadership, the release added.

MGP noted that in light of the original philosophy behind the Consumer Protection Act (COPRA), 1986, there remains significant scope for improvement in consumer redressal mechanisms across the country. For details, contact MGP at 0821-2515150.
