Metrowater to divide water network in added areas into district metered areas to boost efficiency

To curb non-revenue water and ensure equitable supply, the Chennai Metrowater is preparing a detailed feasibility report to implement district metered areas — defined zones with metered flow to track losses and regulate distribution — in the city’s added areas.

According to the water agency, non-revenue water, which refers to drinking water lost due to leaks and theft, contributes to nearly 20% to 30% of the total supply.
