Regional commissioner Nitesh Patil, MCC commissioner Sheikh Tanveer Asif, and others releasing posters for the Swachh Mysuru Road Show in Mysuru on Wednesday. | Photo Credit: M.A. Sriram In a bid to improve livelihood opportunities for women and specially-abled persons, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) will organise a solar-supported livelihood workshop and exhibition on Friday at 9.30 a.m. at Rangacharlu Memorial Hall (Town Hall). Regional commissioner Nitesh Patil announced this at the MCC office auditorium on Wednesday, while releasing posters for the workshop as well as for the upcoming Swachh Mysuru Road Show. He said that 5% of the MCC’s funds are earmarked for the welfare of specially-abled persons and stressed that the allocation should be effectively utilised to provide skill-based training that ensures sustainable livelihoods. The programme on Friday is being organised in collaboration with the SELCO Foundation. Participants will be trained in the use of solar-powered agricultural equipment, livestock management machinery, small-scale enterprise tools and production units, enabling them to take up self-employment ventures. Officials said beneficiaries would also be assisted in securing bank loans and subsidies to launch their enterprises. Post-training monitoring will be undertaken to ensure financial stability and encourage that others opt for skill-based initiatives. Road show The MCC will also organise a Swachh Mysuru Road Show on Sunday from the Mysore palace premises to the Oval grounds under the theme ‘Swachh Mysuru nanninda prarambha’ (Clean Mysuru begins with me). The Chief Minister is expected to be invited to inaugurate the event. Environmental organisations and civic groups are being encouraged to participate in large numbers. MCC commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif said the road show will feature a vintage car rally, a women’s bike rally in view of International Women’s Day, a cycle rally, mounted police teams with horses, tongas and other groups. At the Oval grounds, live demonstrations will be held on recycling construction and demolition waste into useful products, and on scientific management of e-waste, plastic and biomedical waste to create public awareness about sustainable waste management practices. MCC deputy commissioner Veena, Mysuru Chamber of Commerce and Industry president K.B. Lingaraju, Clean Foundation Mysuru director Leela Venkatesh, SELCO Foundation representative Prakash Meti and others were present.
