Marriage hall owners were directed not to allow their premises to be used for distribution of cash or free items, as part of enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections.

The instructions were issued at a consultation meeting held at the Coimbatore Collectorate on Monday (March 17, 2026), chaired by Collector and District Election Officer Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar.

The meeting was attended by District Revenue Officer P. Narayanan, Deputy Director (Prohibition) Murugesan, Personal Assistant (Elections) Maheswari, Tahsildar (Elections) Thanigavel, and representatives of associations of marriage hall owners, printing presses, and banner and flex operators.

Officials said printing press owners must ensure that all notices and banners carry the name and address of the press. They were also asked to verify whether candidates had obtained prior permission for election-related advertisements.

Marriage hall owners were instructed to share details of bookings and rent paid by candidates with election officials.

The Collector said political parties and candidates should not carry out campaign activities at venues where weddings and other functions are being held.

The directions were issued to ensure compliance with election rules during the poll period.
