A Special Court for Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) cases in Mangaluru has sentenced a 20-year-old man from Gadag district to 20 years of imprisonment on finding him guilty of aggravated sexual assault on a minor girl. The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Fast Track Sessions Court, Mangaluru, K.S. Maanu, sentenced Mahesh Madara and imposed a penalty of ₹30,000 for offences punishable under Section 6 (aggravated penetrative sex) of the POCSO Act and Section 65(1) (rape) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The Judge, on April 8, also sentenced Madara to three years of imprisonment and imposed a penalty of ₹5,000 for the offence punishable under Section 137(2) (kidnapping) of BNS.
