Man, son drown in Karanja canal in Bidar

A 50-year-old man and his 24-year-old son drowned after falling into one of the canals of the Karanja reservoir near Byalahalli village in Bhalki taluk of Bidar district on Monday.

The deceased have been identified as Vishwanath Ambanna and his son Ambarish Vishwanath, residents of Hallikhed (B) village.

According to the police, the incident occurred while the two were returning home after completing masonry work in Bidar.

On the way, Ambarish stepped into the canal to wash his hands and feet, but reportedly slipped and fell into the canal.

In an attempt to rescue him, his father, Vishwanath, entered the canal. However, both were drowned after being swept away by the current.

The police said that investigation is under way.
