A 23-year-old man was sentenced to two days of simple imprisonment and fined ₹500 for catcalling and making vulgar comments at women in the Hussaini Alam area of the Old City. The conviction was recorded on January 7 by the I Special Metropolitan Magistrate at Gandhi Bhavan. The accused was identified as G. Uday Kiran, 23, a businessman and a resident of the Hussaini Alam area. Police said the case pertained to harassment of women through vulgar remarks in a public place. After trial, the court found the accused guilty under relevant provisions of the law and imposed a short jail term along with a fine. Officials said the case was investigated by the Hussaini Alam police and the conviction followed coordinated efforts by the station staff. Police reiterated that offences involving harassment of women would be dealt with firmly and pursued through the courts.
