The Fifth Additional District Court in Coimbatore on Wednesday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for murdering his friend near Madukkarai market road in 2019. Judge P.K. Sivakumar awarded the punishment along with a fine of ₹5,000 to Mujibur Rahman (29) of Arignar Anna Nagar on Eachanari road for murdering his friend Dijeshwaran (23) of Katteri in the Nilgiris, over a petty dispute on February 24, 2019. According to the police, Dijeshwaran had pushed Rahman when the latter attempted to take cash from his shirt pocket to buy beedi around 2 p.m. on the day of the incident. Though Rahman was pacified by friends, he met Dijeshwaran in a deserted area abutting railway track near Madukkarai market road an hour later. He murdered Dijeshwaran by hitting him on his head with a stone. The Sundarapuram police had arrested Rahman for the murder, for which the sentence was pronounced on Wednesday. Additional Public Prosecutor S. Mohan Prabu appeared for the prosecution.
