Taramani police arrested a man allegedly involved in house break-ins in the Taramani and Thiruvanmiyur areas of the city. Gold jewellery weighing 54 sovereigns and cash amounting to ₹7.5 lakh were recovered from him.

According to the police, Jayapradha, 45, who lives with her family at Pillaiyar Koil Street, Kanagam, Taramani, had locked her house and gone out on the morning of January 23, 2026, after her husband left for work and her son for college.

When she returned in the evening, she found the front door broken open and noticed that about 12 gold chains, three necklaces, and three pairs of earrings, weighing around 69 sovereigns, kept in the bureau were stolen. Based on her complaint, the Taramani Police Crime Investigation Wing registered a case and launched an investigation.

A police team led by the Inspector of Taramani Crime Wing Sivakalai conducted a detailed inquiry at the scene, examined CCTV footage, and traced the two-wheeler used by the accused to escape after committing the crime. Following sustained investigation, the police arrested Anand, 50, of Govindasamy Nagar, Raja Annamalaipuram.

During interrogation, it was found that Anand had also broken into a locked house and stolen gold jewellery and cash within the limits of the Thiruvanmiyur police station. Based on this, a total of 54 sovereigns of gold jewellery and cash amounting to ₹7.5 lakh were recovered from the accused. The mobile phone and two-wheeler used in the commission of the crime were also seized.

Further inquiry revealed that Anand was involved in previous theft cases.
