Man held for possession of 300 kg gutka near Katpadi

A 37-year-old man was arrested by Virinchipuram police near Katpadi in Vellore after the police seized 300 kg of gutka in a SUV during a vehicle check on Saturday.

Police said the arrested person was identified as K. Arsuram, a native of Rajasthan. Initial inquiry revealed that based on orders of N.U. Sivaraman, SP (Vellore), a special team conducted a surprise check at Anmudi village near Katpadi on Chennai – Bengaluru Highway (NH 48).

When the police stopped a SUV and checked the vehicle, they found 300 kg of gutka in them. They arrested Arsuram, who was coming from Bengaluru to deliver the consignment to traders in Vellore and adjoining towns. A case was registered by Virinchipuram police. The arrested person was lodged at Central Prison in Vellore. A probe is under way.
