Man held for murdering woman while drunk in Mogappair East

The police on Tuesday arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with the murder of a 50-year-old rag picker in Mogappair East.

On Tuesday morning, residents alerted the J.J. Nagar police after noticing a man and a woman lying near a bakery on Church Street. The police reached the scene and found the woman dead. The police said Sheikh, the man found at the scene and a plumber from Madurai district, was taken into custody. Investigations revealed that Sheikh, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, attacked the woman with an iron rod in a secluded spot the previous night. The victim, whose identity is yet to be established, was a homeless person living in the locality.
