A 43-year-old rangoli powder vendor from Kovilpatti was hacked to death on Friday. Police said, the deceased has been identified as S. Mariswaran, from Sasthri Nagar in Kovilpatti. He was allegedly assaulted by his neighbour M. Ramasamy, 75, following an argument while both were in an inebriated state. In the attack, Mariswaran died on the spot, after which Ramasamy fled the scene. Upon receiving information, Kovilpatti West Police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it for post mortem examination at the government hospital in Kovilpatti. A case has been registered at Kovilpatti West police station and Ramasamy was arrested near Kovilpatti bus stand and remanded in judicial custody on Saturday.
