A special court for the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in Villupuram, on Wednesday, convicted and sentenced a 31-year-old man to 20 years imprisonment for sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl. Special Court Judge M. Vinodha also imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on the accused person, N. Gowthaman of Mailam. According to the prosecution, the victim had visited her grandmother’s house on April 3, 2021. The perpetrator abducted the girl and sexually assaulted her. The Tindivanam All Women police registered a case under the POCSO Act and arrested Gowthaman. The court also ordered ₹2 lakh compensation to be given to the survivor.
