A 62-year-old man succumbed to injuries sustained in a fishing boat capsize off Puthuvype here early on Saturday (March 7, 2026). The deceased was identified as Ranchan, a native of Ambalapuzha in Alappuzha. Ranjan was the ‘srank’ (skipper) of the six-member crew onboard the boat. The incident occurred around 5 a.m. when the boat, St. Xavier, which had gone out for fishing, overturned in the sea. Though the six men were brought ashore and rushed to a nearby hospital by residents, Ranjan could not be saved, according to the Fort Kochi Coastal police. Efforts were on to recover the boat that sank in the sea.
