The Muvattupuzha police have registered a case after a woman alleged that her husband pronounced triple talaq to her via SMS. The FIR, filed on Monday, was based on the complaint of a 31-year-old woman from Alappuzha. The accused was identified as Suhail, 32, of Thrikkunnapuzha, Alappuzha. The police registered the case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 85 (cruelty to a woman by her husband or relatives). Sections 3 and 4 of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019 were also invoked, which render talaq void and illegal and prescribe punishment for pronouncing it.
