A 35-year-old man was arrested with 9.402 kg of hashish oil worth about ₹1 crore by the Maheshwaram police and the Special Operations Team (SOT) during a joint operation on Sunday (March 29).

Korabu Chanti Babu from Alluri Sitarama Raju district in Andhra Pradesh was apprehended at the Maheshwaram Gate bus stop. Rajarao, believed to be from Odisha, and another unidentified person are absconding.

An officer from the Maheshwaram zone said that the accused procured the contraband from Rajarao and was transporting it from Odisha to Hyderabad to supply it to unidentified persons. The hashish oil, an intoxicant derived from ganja, was found packed in 10 polythene covers. Two mobile phones were also seized.

According to the officer, Chanti Babu has four previous cases registered under the NDPS Act in Andhra Pradesh, including in Kancharapalem, Anakapalli and Visakhapatnam.

Officials said efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the absconding accused. Police advised students and youngsters to stay away from drugs, and urged parents to remain vigilant about behavioural changes in their children.
