In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Kollam Excise Range Office seized 6.05 kg of ganja during a targeted inspection at the Mekon Shivaji Mukku area. The operation, led by Excise Inspector P. Sankar, resulted in the interception of a car used to smuggle the contraband intended for local distribution. The officials arrested 33-year-old Alshad S., son of Shahjahan, residing at Noufal Mansil in Ayathil. A case has been registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. According to Excise officials, Alshad is a key figure in an inter-State drug network, mainly transporting illegal substances from Tamil Nadu-based syndicates into various parts of Kerala. Following the seizure and arrest, the Excise Department has initiated a wider investigation to trace the roots of the supply chain.
