The carcass of a male leopard, aged about 10 years, was sighted in the Pennagaram reserve forest late Wednesday (January 14, 2026). The Forest Range Officer reported the death, and a postmortem was carried out on Thursday (January 15), in accordance with the National Tiger Conservation Authority Standard Operating Procedures.

According to a Forest department official, the leopard had all its body parts – skin, canines, and claws – intact. During the postmortem, an injury was observed, along with blood clots and a fracture in the neck bone on the left side. Samples were collected and sent for examination and analysis to the Advanced Institute for Wildlife Conservation, Vandalur, and the Forensic Science Laboratory.
