Makara Sankranti Brahmotsavams at Sri Bhramarmba Mallikarjuna Swamy temple in Srisailam will be celebrated from January 12 to 18, while the ‘Brahmotsava Kalyanam’ will be held on January 15.

Srisailam temple trust board chairman Pothugunta Ramesh Naidu and executive officer (EO) M. Srinivasa Rao said Brahmotsavams will be performed twice to Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy — once on ‘Makara Sankramanam’ and the other during ‘Maha Sivaratri’. The Brahmotsavams will commence with ‘Yagashala Pravesam’ at 9.15 a.m. on January 12, after which Ganapati puja will be performed for the successful conduct of the Brahmotsavams. ‘Anukararopana’, ‘Dwajarohana’, ‘Dwajapataviskarana’ and other rituals will be performed in the night.

According to the temple officials, special pujas, ‘Rudra Homam’, ‘Chandi Homam’, and other rituals will be performed daily during the Brahmotsavams. From the second day, ‘Vahana Sevas’ will be held to the processional deities of Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy. On January 13, ‘Brungi Vahana Seva’ will be performed, followed by ‘Kailasa Vahana Seva’ (January 14), ‘Nandi Vahana Seva’ (January 15), ‘Ravana Vahana Seva’ (January 16), ‘Purnahuthi’, ‘Trishula Snanam’, ‘Nagavalli’ and ‘Dwajavarohanam’ (January 17) and ‘Aswa Vahana Seva’ (January 18).

On the day of Makara Sankranti, Brahmotsava Kalyanam will be performed, for which the local Chenchu tribals will be extended a special invitation.

During the Mahotsavams, some ‘Arjitha’ and ‘Paroksha Sevas’ like ‘Rudra Homam’, ‘Chandi Homam’, ‘Mrutyunjaya Homam’, ‘Ganapati Homam’ and others have been cancelled.
