Dinesh The Mahatma Gandhi Park, located in the heart of Shivamogga city, has new attractions, including ponds, a science park, a swimming pool, an improved security system, and a children’s train. The new facilities will be open to visitors soon. S.N. Channabasappa, Shivamogga MLA, visited the park on Friday and reviewed the development works along with officers of the Shivamogga City Corporation. The children’s train, which had been stopped for some time for technical reasons, is now ready for rides. The MLA and the officers took a ride on the train in the park. Mr. Channabasappa also inspected the construction of the swimming pool, artificial ponds, and the work on the science park. Speaking to the media, he stated that the swimming pool would be ready within 15 days and that the construction of the ponds was in the final stages. “The science park will be dedicated to the public within a week. The park will serve as a place to educate and entertain visitors, particularly schoolchildren,” he said. The security of the park has been strengthened by deputing home-guards in two shifts, Mr. Channabasappa added. Mayanna Gowda, the commissioner of the corporation, said that a special team of officers had been formed to monitor the development works in the park. “The children’s play area has been remodelled. The park offers many activities to keep visitors engaged throughout the day. The entry fee remains ₹10 per person, while walkers have free entry in the morning and evening,” the officer said.
