The Mahashivaratri festival was celebrated with great religious fervour across Kalaburagi on Sunday.

Hundreds of devotees from the city and surrounding villages thronged the Shiva temple at Ramteerth, located on the outskirts of the city, to offer their prayers. Many waited in long queues from early in the morning.

The city wore a festive look, with temples beautifully decorated for the occasion.

Besides Ramteerth, large numbers of devotees visited the Sharanabasaveshwar Temple to offer puja.

People also visited the giant Shivalinga, situated in a serene hilly area at Amrit Sarovar, Geeta Nagar, as well as the Vaishnavi Devi Temple, built in a mountain-like pattern, both located on the outskirts of the city.

Religious ceremonies were organised over multiple days at other prominent temples, a two-day event at the historic Vittal Rukmini temple in Station Bazaar and a four-day festival at the newly constructed Laxmi temple in Advocates Colony in the city.

Fasting devotees observed rituals throughout the day, offering pujas both at temples and at home, before breaking their fast in the evening.
