A 29-year-old man K. Ramesh of Madurai was bludgeoned to death allegedly by G. Mayasankar (29), who had an illicit relationship with Priya (28) (wife of Ramesh) near a stone quarry under M. Pudupatti police station limits here on Monday night. The police said that a couple of months back Mayasankar, a truck driver, had brought Priya with him to Pudukottai. Ramesh came to Pudukottai to take her back home in Madurai on Monday afternoon. However, after a quarrel, he had left the spot. When Ramesh went back to Pudukottai with one G. Balaji (31), Mayasankar took them to a secluded place for talks. Suddenly, Mayasankar and his friend, Rajesh (24) of Amathur, attacked Ramesh and Balaji with wooden log at around 7 p.m. While Ramesh died at the spot, Balaji had sustained bleeding injuries on his head and ears. He has been admitted to the Virudhunagar Government Medical College hospital, where the body of Ramesh has been kept. M. Pudupatti police have arrested Mayasankar and two others and were on the lookout for Rajesh.
