Liquor outlets located within 5 km of the Kerala border in Coimbatore district will remain closed from April 7 to April 9, 2026, in view of the Kerala Assembly election scheduled on April 9.

District Election Officer and Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar said the restriction has been imposed under Section 135(C) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

All government liquor retail outlets and bars attached to them, situated within the 5-km radius of the Kerala border in Coimbatore district, will remain closed. The order also applies to licence holders under FL2 to FL11 categories, except FL6.

The closure will come into effect from 10 a.m. on April 7, 2026, and continue till midnight on April 9, 2026, the day of polling.

The Collector said that any sale of liquor in violation of the order, or illegal stocking of alcoholic beverages, or transporting liquor from one place to another in the notified areas during the specified period, will attract action under the Tamil Nadu Prohibition Act, 1937.
