Ceasefire announcement

The decision by the United States and Iran to observe a conditional ceasefire will bring immense relief to the global community, which has been facing a severe energy crisis. This assumes greater significance in the backdrop of an ominous threat issued by the U.S. President that ‘a whole civilization will die tonight’. However, Israel’s claim that the ceasefire does not include Lebanon sustains fears that the war may continue during this crucial two-week window. It is Mr. Trump’s responsibility to prevail upon Israel to halt attacks on Lebanon for meaningful negotiations to take place.
